Amelia Kay

Last weekend, a little visitor and her parents made the trip up from VA to NYC. Miss Amelia Kay (mentioned here) had her first jaunt around the big apple, turning heads and making jaded New Yorkahs smile all over the city.

On Friday night, the new family of three came over for drinks and then we ventured off to my favorite Friday night dinner spot, Deans. A little unsure of her surroundings, AK held on tight as her little eyes wondered all around. Miss Bailey was quite intrigued by the "view and coo" too. Isn't Amelia as sweet as can be?

Oh, and if you're wondering (like I did) that green thing around her, is a swaddle. So many things I don't know!

On Saturday a few of us went to lunch while AK slept in the stroller beside us, not even winking at the honking cabs or the loud MTA bus as it drove uptown. Saturday afternoon we gathered our friends at the Great Lawn in Central Park for appetizers and adult beverages (milk for Amelia of course!) so everyone could meet with the lady and spend time catching up. I've spent quite a few nights on the Great Lawn this summer and this one was particularly special.

I can't wait to have Amelia back up to the city again, hopefully next time we can get some shopping in - a visit to New York isn't complete unless you buy a new outfit. So, that will be first on our list for next time. Sound good, Amelia?

Summer 2012 Bucket List

I think I'm a bit late with this, go figure. But, with all that I've done this summer (and all the more I want to do) I feel like I should make my own Summer Bucket List. Because, there's nothing like summer time to explore and do new things, right?

Here's a few I found on Pinterest, but I've also come up with more personal/NYC related ones.

Of course, whenever I make lists, I like to write things I've already done, just so I can cross them off the list. Do you do that too? For some reason it makes me feel good.

Here we go...
Take more photos with my camera
Take a boat ride around Manhattan
Go out with friends more (loving this)
Go to a new museum
Drive Bailey somewhere where she can really run and run hard
Go to the Philharmonic (been twice!)
Throw a water balloon
Shag or Dance (always)

Listen to Beach Music (everyday)
Go to a concert
Walk slow in the rain
Go to the beach (East Hampton and NC)

Have a watergun fight
Go to the Columbus Farmer's Market on Sundays
Make a tomato pie with tomatoes from Columbus Farmer's Market
Stay up really late
Go to bed early
Sit on a roof and enjoy the view
Get tickets to Shakespeare in the park (Into the Woods)
Eat a Popsicle
Watch an old show (Dawson's Creek! I know, weird right?)
People watch from a bench
Get off at subway station that I'm not familiar with and explore

What are you hoping to do/have you done this summer?

Concerts in the Park and Things

Another fun weekend. Another tired Monday. Seems to be the trend lately.

Did any of y'all in the city go to the Philharmonic on the Great Lawn Friday night? If you've never been, I highly recommend it. There is actually another concert tonight. A new Southern friend this weekend asked me what the crowd was like - stuffy people or not? Not. Everyone goes to enjoy music, friends and a picnic style dinner (BYOB) on a nice night in the city. I love how nights like those make you fall in love with NYC all over again. Even if you don't like classical music (I like but don't love) it's very enjoyable. Plus, it's on the Great Lawn, which has a great view of the city. And it's FREE. Even better. I may just go back tonight.

I also met up with friends like this guy, The Hud

And then went to Marisa's summer party in Chelsea. I don't think I've ever seen so many people in an NYC apartment. Well, at least in a while. I love meeting new and interesting people like The Swagger. Check out his site.

So. Much. Fun. This picture was taken at our friend's 30th on Thursday. Amazing view of NYC and CP. I love how this photo's quality is just about as good as one of those old disposable cameras. Remember those?I wonder where they went...

I talked about my blog a bit at the party this weekend, so hey to you if you're reading and actually find me.

Stay cool this week y'all. It's going to be a scorcha!

Oh, heyyyy

This always happens to me in the summer. July 4th comes and then bam! It's fall. The leaves start changing colors and crunching under my boots while the tan lines begin to fad away and the smell of winter announces that  it's on its way. So, before July ends, I better get on writing a post or two.

This summer has been so fun (and quick) because I have been so busy. Most nights, I'm out and about, eating at new restaurants, sitting on rooftops and catching up with family & friends. Last week, our nephews came up for a visit for the 4th and we sat by the pool, played with the dog and enjoyed the heatwave.

And, for those of you who were curious, The Husband and I have kept up with our summer Dinner & A Movie Challenge. His pick was "Julie/Julia" and he served bruschetta for an appetizer. For dinner we had a white fish cooked in a butter cream sauce and a side of lima beans. I know, lima beans weren't in the movie, but we love them so he included them. For dessert he served watermelon. Now, everything was great up until the watermelon. I'm a dessert girl through and through. You know, chocolate, sweets, the whole nine yards. Never in my life would I consider fruit a dessert and I told him so. Negative one for him.

For this week, I picked "A League of Their Own." I wanted to do baseball food but with a healthier twist. I grilled hotdogs served with an avocado, roasted corn, onions and strawberry salsa that I served on top of the dog. Instead of fries, I baked asparagus, breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese until they were crunchy, with a side of good o' baked beans. For dessert (and no I did not serve fruit) we made smores, but I forgot to snap a photo - yum.

Keep the movie suggestions coming. I think I'm winning so far!:)
