Ahh, Friday

This has been a very very long week. I don't know about you but I'm exhausted and I'm looking forward to doing nothing - absolutely nothing this weekend. Maybe I'll be productive, maybe I won't. We have such busy weekends coming up so for this one, I'm going to take it slow.

With the start of October tomorrow comes fall-like weather. It's been humid in the city and despite loving warm weather, this girl is ready for cooler temps. Ready for boots, mums, pumpkins and the sound of leaves crunching under my feet.

Loving Pinterest now. Happy fall y'all...

Virginia 10 Miler

Woops! There I go again slacking in the blog postings. I secretly (wait no) openly say that I wish I could stay at home, clean and organize our apartment and cook (or rather watch the Food & Coooking Channels and watch people cook), blog everyday and play with Miss Bailey all while have a glass of vino. Wouldn't that be better than work? Of course it would be. Who am I kidding?

But I digress...on Thursday night we packed up the car and shipped out to Lynchburg Virginia to see my in-laws and race in the Virginia 10 Miler.

And by race, let's be very clear that I did not run. I walked the four miler with my mum-and-law all while snapping photos - is that normal to take pictures while you "Race?" I think so! Go us.

Our cheering section (Liz & Aaron) above!....We even got medals!

The Husband of course ran the 10 miles. Love that runner...

It was great going back to the Burg to see family and friends (two of whom are preggers!). It's been too long since we've been back for a visit. We ate lots of good food (i.e., Silver Pig, The Cav, Waterstone, Chocolate pie, shrimp scampi oh and the T-Room). Funny how I talk more about the food than the race! Though, I forgot to snap photos with the friends, I got some of the family.

Miss Bailey didn't make herself at home at all. This city dog just doesn't know how to relax in the country - HA!

Put a Ring on It

Over the weekend, my two very awesome friends got engaged! I've mentioned Allie & Bradley here before when they came to visit Southern in the City and The Husband last winter. I love these two lovebirds and am so happy for them. {by the way, these pictures remind me that winter is coming, ew}.

Allie & Bradley have been dating since our college days at Elon when Allie and I were roommates our junior and senior year. I have been anxiously awaiting the day when B would put the ring on A. In fact, for the past year whenever Allie called, I would yell across the room to The Husband and say, "It's Allie! She might be engaged!" [kidding, sort of] Well, on Saturday night after just coming home from dinner, my iPhone lit up and the name "Allie" popped up. I did the aforementioned shout to The Husband before picking up. Lo and behold, she said Bradley had proposed to her! "Yes!" It felt like Christmas.

I then proceeded to jump up and down and do the happy dance around the apartment. I've been known to do this on occasions such as this.

Congratulations to the happy couple! I can't wait to celebrate with y'all!

Fall Finds...Jackets

This morning I woke up to Fall. I love the beginnings of each season as they promise a fresh start. Wait, let me change that. I love the beginnings of Spring, Summer and Fall. Winter, not so much.

I also love the start of the seasons because that means shopping time, which I plan to do very soon.

In the Fall you can wear cute jackets before the real cold weather comes (well, at least in NYC). Once winter moves in, I'm stuck wearing my big puffy brown coat (you know the one that I refused to buy, but when I moved to the city it was a must-have).

Today's weather inspired me to look around for new cute fall jackets and here are a few from Emerson Made that I love. (By the way, they have giveaways each month, so check them out).

Just a peak...

I started snapping a few photos of our new place this morning. The boxes are unpacked and most of our things are put away. It's officially been one week in the new apartment and it's starting to feel like home, but I still have lots of decorating to do. I'm changing things around and putting this and that there.

One of my favorite things about our apartment is the fireplace. It's going to be fun to change things up a bit here but right now it looks like this.

Check out that weird electrical outlet where a fire would be...

I plan to put some kind of plant there...maybe a fern?

Here is our hallway with a old but new to me chest of drawers from an NC friend.

In our entryway, we hung a gallery of pictures (like on YHL) and things from our favorite places. On the opposite side we are doing maps. We are still deciding on photos as you can probably tell since a few aren't in the right direction or don't have photos in the frames.

And here is one of my favorite spots in Kitty Hawk, NC...Capt'n Franks.

The kitchen isn't nearly done but here is our window looking downtown.

It's great having a window in the kitchen. It's the little things when you live in Manhattan. Makes me want to cook more...sort of:)

Lots more to hang and place but more to come soon.

US Open

Other than all the rain we got in NYC today, the past few days have been gorgeous. Yesterday we ventured out to Queens for The US Open. They called for rain but we had wind and sun. In fact, I'm little sunburned today (probably the last time this season - hello fall!)

We had a great time watching the players including Novak Djokovic.

I love how the crowds' heads go back and forth watching the ball dance between players. It's funny how watching tennis makes you tired. We spent most of the day at the grounds and continued watching when we got home. My only complaint of the day was the line for food. We stood in line for over an hour for some cold hotdogs and semi cold adult beverages. But, all in all the day was good. Not quite like this night a few years back, but still fun!

We also unpacked and started putting things together at our new apartment. Pictures coming tomorrow! Maybe I'll even pull out the real camera and put away the iphone for picture snapping:)

A blank canvas

Yesterday we moved. Again. After one year, it's become pretty standard that we start looking for a new place to live. Typically because of the rent or neighborhood. This time it was the rent (we love the Upper West Side). We found a new place, cheaper and bigger. Winning!

The idea of moving is always more fun than the actual move. It was a full day yesterday (and night), despite hiring movers, we still did a lot of it ourselves. Well, by a lot, I mean several trips to and from the old place and new with our packed car of suitcases, lamps and other odds and ends. The movers did the big stuff.

Our new home is a blank canvas, meaning that it's big and white and we can do a lot with it. It's also very old (built in the 1920's, so there is a lot of character, which I love). I've been daydreaming over at Pinterest. Hopefully my inspiration there will carry over to the new place.

So far so good. We are all adjusting well (even Miss Bailey). We gave her many treats and bones last night and she is starting to feel comfortable.

Many have asked, so I've included a few photos of our empty space below (sorry, they are from the iPhone so they aren't too clear). See what I mean about blank canvas?? That's a lot of white wall.

This is the living room with a great window overlooking west 86th

Other side

This place has lots of closet space (a rare find in old NYC places) here is the pantry, (thrilling, I know!)

Bedroom...TINY hanging closet. I've taken it over:) There is another bedroom closest that is funky. Perfect for shoes I think.

Entry Way

Other side of entry

There you go! Not too exciting, but lots of potential. For those of you who are curious, it's almost 900 square feet (200 more than our old place). It's the little things in life - Ha! Be back soon with updates!
