Halloween Costumes...For Dogs

I've been going back and forth on whether or not to dress up Miss Bailey for Halloween this year. Our local doggy daycare is having a party for pets and their owners on Halloween. The best costume wins a prize.

I've never been one for generic costumes from the store so I'm thinking I'll get creative and make something from scratch.

I found this article today and loved some of the costumes. Don't the dogs look thrilled?

Happy Fall Ya'll

Last weekend I started decorating for fall around the apt. I went with the smaller pumpkins and gourds theme this year, mainly because I loved how they decorated with them in Southern Living and lets be honest, the larger pumpkins (like most things in nyc) are overpriced. Plus, there are only so many fall decorations that you can place in a 800 square foot space.
Although gourds are quite ugly, I took these home with me because I love their unique textures and colors.
And of course I have to have my acorns. I usually keep these around all year since they remind me of my college, Elon. (Those pictured below aren't real of course, but fun large ones that I bought at Pier One last year).

I think I'll go out and pick up some real acorns this week...happy fall ya'll!

In other news, don't forget to check back tomorrow ya'll for the Stella & Dot giveaway! Also, be sure to visit Kelly Bird's Facebook page and become a fan!

Stella & Dot Giveaway - Coming soon!

Hey ya'll. I have some fun news to share! My virtual friend, Kelly Bird, has offered to do another Stella & Dot fall giveaway this Thursday! We had great responses from our last S&D giveaway so I'm so excited that we're able to do it again.

Check back Thursday for more details on how you can win. In the meantime, have a look at Stella & Dot's site to see some of the pretty things for fall and winter.

On separate note, I brought out the pumpkins and gourds this weekend and now the apartment feels a bit more fall like. I never realized though, how ugly gourds were. They look like something out of an alien movie so of course we had to get them. Stay tuned for pictures tonight.

Elon Girls Trip 2010

Like I mentioned in my last post, Southern in the City traveled down south to Athens, Georgia (GO DAWGS!) this past weekend for our annual college girls trip. We always try to get together at least once a year with everyone. So far we've been able to coordinate our busy schedules (and the fact that only two of us live in the same state) for four years in a row. We'd like to keep this tradition going until we're old and grey, and hopefully even long after that. But now they are probably hating me for including the above photo.

We stayed with Megan (remember the Puddins'?) who has a cute home just about 10 minutes from downtown. I thought I had many a monogram in my house, but Meg has them everywhere in every room. Have you ever seen monogram Halloween towels? Seasonal monograms. I love it!
No matter how long we've gone without seeing each other or a phone call to catch up, it's like no time has passed when we get together. We laugh and laugh until our stomachs hurt and I always come back from our weekends feeling full and happy.

So what does one do in Athens on the weekend? Go to the Georgia football game of course. I had never been to Athens but heard many stories from alumni RRC (aka Dad). I always imagine what my dad was like in college (probably a little less Republican like) so it was fun to visit his alma mater and see where he walked when he was in college.
Of course we tailgated with delicious food and drinks. I may have said once or twice on the blog, but I don't cook. I'm learning to (sort of). My friends on the other hand are great cooks. If I could bring one of them home in my purse to cook for us everyday, The Husband would be a happy man.
Of course the best thing about our girls trip is pretending like we are in college again, which we did the whole weekend. I love these girls like family and can't imagine life without them...Ya'll mean everything to me!

Go Dawgs!

Gooo dawgs! I just returned from a wonderful friend-filled weekend down in Athens, GA, ya'll. Every year, my girlfriends from college pick one place to visit (usually where one of us lives) and this year we ventured to Athens. We must have been good luck because the bulldogs finally won and beat Tennessee. I took lots and lots of pictures but unfortunately when I went to download them today, my battery died and therefore we'll just have to wait a little bit longer...

Here's one blackberry picture from the game on Saturday to hold ya'll over. More to come with a longer post tonight.

Decorating for Fall

I'm a summer girl at heart. I would pick warm weather over cool any day. But, I do love the start of fall and the changes in season, despite the fact that fall promises winter and winters up here are way too cold for me.

I've been looking for a quick project to change up the apartment a bit. It's hard when you don't own your place and therefore don't have much liberty to change things. The other night The Husband caught me just staring at the wall in the kitchen. I know, I'm weird like that. I told him that I'm going to change it up a bit and make it more "fally" whatever that means. Then I read my October issue of Southern Living and got some inspiration.
Photos from Southern Living.com
I'll let ya'll know how my decorating for fall goes. Hopefully I'll have something to reveal next week. If not, maybe I'll just carve a pumpkin and call it a day!

"Baby We Were Born to Run"

This past weekend, The Husband ran the half marathon race in NYC, specifically the New York Road Runner's Norwegian Festival half marathon. Like I've mentioned many a times, I hate to run. I've never had that "runner's high" that so many of my runner friends talk about. Yet, I can respect and appreciate the dedication that goes into training for any race. I watched (and smelled, ew) The Husband spend many days running and running and running some more just to get ready for this race. He did a great job and finished under the time he'd hoped for.
(checking out his surprise songs list)

I've never been to this race before but it was fun and even featured all things Norwegian including bagels and locks, waffles and live entertainment including Madcom. You know that song, Beggin'? Well yes, the are Norwegian!
One of my favorite New York days is watching the marathon (coming up in just a few weeks). Though I know I'll likely never run the marathon in my life, I love cheering on those who do and watching them run and run and run some more. Congrats to all you runners out there!

Because Some Things Just Can't Be Explained

I have actually seen this lady "walking" her parrot twice in the last few weeks.
Only in New York. Happy Friday, ya'll! Stay dry.
